Additional Water Garden Waterfalls Information

Another source of water flow would be by adding a waterfall.  A simple easy installment to use is a preformed portable waterfall.  Most preformed waterfalls are made of plastic or fiberglass.  Some are so realistic, they look natural.

You will need to choose the proper size preformed waterfall for the area you are working with along with an adequate submersible waterfall pump. When selecting your waterfall pump, it will need to work harder to move water up a slope or to the head of a stream.   Try to avoid skimping on GPH levels, when choosing a waterfall pump.  Gravity increases when the amount of water is going higher.  There are a couple of things to help you with choosing a proper waterfall pump with the correct GPH.  One helpful hint is to make sure that the pump can recirculate 50 to 100% of the volume of water in your garden.  Another helpful hint is to measure the GPH by measuring the spillway width and calculating 150 GPH per inch at the waterfall’s discharge height.    When setting up your preformed waterfall and submerged pump, try to observe the different ways possible to view it.  Once you have decided the actual resting place for your waterfall, you will need to level the area.  You can do this by tamping the ground.  Tamping is what we mean by packing down the dirt and making it level.  You can do this with a shovel or your hand or foot.  If you are working with a larger area, you might want to consider using a mechanical tamping device.  The mechanical device can be rented from a local establishment.

Your landscape may provide the elevation needed to get that downward trickle, but for those who live in the flatlands, you can create the same effect. By using a mound of dirt, you can make a stair step starting from your garden pond and going upward. Cover the steps with your flexible pond liner making sure that the sides are positioned how you want your water to run into your pond. Run tubing from your waterfall pump up and underneath to where the top of your waterfall will begin and take it through the liner. Before going any further, you might test the flow of your waterfall by turning on the pump and filter. In case it is not flowing properly, this will give you the chance to restructure the flexible waterfall liner and dirt mound to establish the flow you are trying to achieve.
